Hey everyone! I can't believe it's already March. I haven't done a Super Song Sunday post in a while. I promise I'm trying to catch up! So while I love Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato, I actually have a very unique band I love when I'm reading and writing: Bridezilla.
Bridezilla is a band from Sydney, Australia in High School. They started out in 2007 and just played their last farewell show in January. They have three albums Bridezilla EP (24 November 2007, Ivy League Records), Forth & Fine/Sometimes (Bridezilla/Tren Brothers Split 7" Single) (2009, Inertia Recordings), and The First Dance (Album)[2] (30 October 2009, Inertia Recordings).
This song (Beaches) was the very first song I heard. I heard of this band on Lauren Kate's (author of the bestselling Fallen series) website. She uses it as a soundtrack for her series. Whenever I feel like writing or reading I turn this on in the background and it helps me think. I also use this music for doing homework.
They're a little different but I like that! I like that it's a breath of fresh air compared to all the music on the radio they play over and over AND OVER again. I didn't even realize they split up until I looked them up to do this review on them. I'll admit, it made me a bit sad. Their music is so inspirational to me.
Okay, I'm done fangirling for the moment. I'm just soo excited. Okay, so lately I've been hearing Taylor getting a bunch of hate. What the heck? Okay, I have to admit, she doesn't have Celine Dion's voice but have you heard her songs? Her songs are fun, full of energy and life, and you can relate! I love how she has a song for everything!
Songs:
1. State of Grace
2. Red
3. Treacherous
4. I Knew You Were Trouble
5. All Too Well
6. 22
7. I Almost Do (<--- One of my faves!)
8. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
9. Stay Stay Stay
10. The Last Time (featuring Snow Patrol)
11. Holy Ground
12. Sad Beautiful Tragic
13. The Lucky One
14. Everything Has Changed (featuring THE ED SHEERAN 0.0)
15. Starlight
16. Begin Again (<--- I'm completely in love with this song!)
Overall? I love this album! It has a little of everything! When "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" came out, honestly I was a little bummed. Don't get me wrong, I love the song now! But at the time, all I thought was how different she sounded now compared to her first album. And she is different! But after hearing everything, I've decided it's not actually a bad thing. I love her old music, but she has matured so much. She's talking about deep problems rather than some high school crush.
Why Red? Why is that the new title? She explains why by saying
"All the different emotions that are written about on this album are all
pretty much about the kind of tumultuous, crazy, insane, intense,
semi-toxic relationships that I’ve experienced in the last two years.
All those emotions — spanning from intense love, intense frustration,
jealousy, confusion, all of that — in my mind, all those emotions are
red. You know, there’s nothing in between. There’s nothing beige about
any of those feelings" (Taylor Swift).
I love that! It's so true! She's grown so much and learned so much and you can tell in her music. She has a lot of good songs to look up for when you have a broken heart but also for everything else.
I could go on and on (and on and on and on...) about how amazing her and this album are but here's what I have left to say. Ready for it? BUY THIS ALBUM. Yes. Buy it. Now. It's amazing! See how many exlamation marks I used in this review? It's because I'm compeltely fangirling right now. My friends are like "Wow, Brooke, calm yourself." So I came here to fangirl to you guys. So buy this album now! Like... leave school or leave the dinner your cooking. Just go buy it. Because you will be so happy rainbows will appear and your life will become infinitely better. It's true.
Okay so I think my music is just getting weirder and weirder but I want to show you guys stuff I don't think you've ever seen, rather than why I like Taylor Swift. This time, I'm choosing an artist who is particularly strange but has awesome music.
Kerli!
This is a more... normal picture of her. Usually she's dressed like a porcelain doll or some other strange outfit. But this is the beautiful Kerli. Some of her story?
Kerli (her actual name!) was born in 1987 in Estonia. When she was just fifteen she started her singing career. When she was sixteen she moved away to live on her own. She was living in an abandoned home and only eating rice during the winter. When she was eighteen she moved to America, finally being signed onto and setting her on the music road.
Despite her hard upbringing and road, she has now had one album out along with other singles. If any of you are familiar with Almost Alice from the Alice in Wonderland movie, she sang Tea Party and Strange (with Tokyo Hotel). She also helped write - get this- Skyscraper by Demi Lovato! How cool is that?
In 2008 she came out with her first album, Love is Dead. She hasn't had any other albums yet but she is working on them and I love this album. Her most well-known song, Walking On Air, is also on this album and it is shown below. (It's slightly creepy but that's just her style.)
Her other song that I really like is on the Almost Alice album called Tea Party. It's really cool and it's fun to sing with.Again, it's also a bit weird.
For more of her strange music videos you can go here onto her Youtube channel. I actually really like them. Her new song is going to be on the Frankenweenie album. I'm excited for that! I hope one day she'll get bigger than she already is.
Hey everyone! Who's ready to go back to school? I don't know about you guys but I only have a week left and for some strange reason I'm excited to go back to school! So this week I'm super excited to tell you guys about my favorite band: THE VERONICAS.
Aren't they gorgeous? Anyways a little info on them.
The Veronicas are a rock band from Brisbane, Australia, formed in 1999
by twin sisters, Jessica and Lisa Origliasso. In addition to music, the
sisters market their own line of clothing which debuted in 2007. They have three albums, The Secret Life Of..., Hook Me Up, and their newest album Life On Mars.
I love the story of their band name. You can read the full story (and other things about them) here.
Their first album, The Secret Life Of... is an awesome album that came out in 2005 when the girls were about 21. It featured the song 4ever which is shown below.
These girls have been my favorite band since I was about 10 years old and I absolutely love their style of music. Above all though, the reason I adore their music is their voices. If you ever get the chance to hear them live, you will be even more amazed then when you hear hem recorded. Their voices are... oh gosh amazing. The notes they manage to hit (or scream sometimes) are amazing. Especially in the song Take Me On The Floor which is the video posted below. (Warning: it does say B**** and "I wanna kiss a girl" in it)
Does her voice not give you chills? Jess's scream thing that just amazes me. And Lisa's voice is great too. So their new album, Life On Mars, has not come to the USA yet. I don't even think it has come out in Australia. But their new song is on YouTube even though you are unable to buy it on iTunes yet (grr). So here's a preview of their new album!
I seriously could sit here and gush over them all day but this is a long enough post as is. So look them up, love them like I do, and enjoy!
Hey everyone! I'm still trying to catch up with all my reviews and reading and whatnot, but I did find a new singer that I love:
Skylar Grey
Skylar Grey (also known as Holly Brook Hafermann or Holly Brook) is an artist that I found a few weeks back so I don't know much about her, but she is amazing so far. She's new, but has a very different style of music than most of what is coming out onto the radio right now.
Skylar started out going by the name Holly Brook and started signing on with bands such as Linkin Park, Fort Minor, and many others. But she was mostly in the background as a small voice or as the writer. She was never the star and wasn't put in the spotlight.
In 2011 she changed her name to Skylar Grey and started making more of a name for herself. Slowly, but surely, she started getting more opportunities to sing. The first song she really wrote on her own was "Love the Way You Lie." Bet you didn't know that! The popular song on the radio by Eminem and Rhianna is actually written by this talented artist.
In my opinion it's way better and sounds much prettier. I love how her music sounds real rather than auto tuned and fake. While I love the song "Call Me Maybe," it isn't the same. It's fun to dance to or sing along with, but it's fake.
My favorite song of Skylar Grey's is a song called "Invisible." It's about how no matter what she does, she always feels invisible. A lot of it I can actually relate to and it is a really powerful song. It's something I think a lot of people can relate to at some point in their lives. The songs a little sad though, so keep that in mind when you watch the video. It's good but kinda sad.
Skylar Grey may not be the next big thing and she may not be the most mainstream artist, but her voice is beautiful and her songs are really powerful. You all should look her up on iTunes or even YouTube. She is amazing and one of my new favorite artists.
Hey everyone! I'm back and finally starting my new feature, Super Song Sundays.
Today's feature is about my favorite singer, Demi Lovato. More specifically, her newish album, Unbroken.
Everyone knows that Demi took a break there for a while and I almost started to forget her. But right when I heard this came out I bought it and immediately fell in love with it. The different styles of music pull together to create and awesome variety of songs.
Songs 1-4: All Night Long, Who's That Boy, You're My Only Shorty, and Together are the first four songs on the album. They are pretty much just dancing songs featuring artists Missy Elliot, Timbaland, Dev, Iyaz, and Jason Derulo. There's not a whole lot of "meaning" in the songs but they are fun to dance to.
Songs 5-14: These songs include Lightweight, Unbroken, Fix a Heart, Hold Up, Mistake, Give Your Heart a Break, Skyscraper, In Real Life, My Love is Like a Star, and For the Love of a Daughter (my personal favorite). These songs are from breakups to her more serious problems and almost all have meaning. That's what I love about this album is that everything is so serious and real to her and every song seems sincere.
My favorite song on the album- if not favorite song period- is definitely For the Love of a Daughter. I obviously don't know everything about it but it's about her dad, who she hasn't seen in a long time. It's a nice change from all the same basic songs that are out there on the radio today and it makes me think.
My least favorite would probably have to be any one of the "1-4" dance songs. Not that I don't like fun up-beat music or anything, it's just that it doesn't sound like her. It sounds like they put her voice into someone else's songs and so that's why I don't like them as much. But they definitely are fun to dance to at a party.
Overall? I love this album! Demi's music from before was nice, but it seemed to... I don't know, maybe it was too Disney. I liked it, I just didn't ever love it. Now that she's back with some meaningful, emotional, and beautifully written songs, she's now my favorite artist by far. If you don't have this album, I recommend going out and buying it because it's worth every cent.
