Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.

In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever." Goodreads

Review: I read this book awhile back ago and am finally getting around to review it. I have to say that I absolutely fell in love with this book. I loved the romance and slow progression to the climax of the book. There are a few things that had me, how should I say, doubtful. My first thought when reading it was that it reminded me way too much of Twilight. She moves to a new city where she tries to adjust to a new social life and meets a boy in Biology and, of course, he takes an interest in her. I was also noticing the love triangle starting to form between three

characters sort of abruptly. One minute we see Laurel totally into David, next minute she's thinking of a new character who she barely knows but somewhat remembers him from somewhere. The story was original in it's own way but there was too many elements I saw that were from other books.

I did, however, like the characters. They were very realistic in a fantasy. I especially love David and Laurel's relationship. It seemed like they wanted to be together but things were pushing them apart and both of them could see that. I loved how Laurel still kept her feelings known about David even when she was swaying back and forth between him and someone else. She didn't lose her feelings for him once a new cutie came along or used him for her own gain. David was also on my good list because of his sacrifices for Laurel whether they were big or small, he always stayed contempt about how he felt about Laurel, and didn't let anything get in the way of him helping her.

I give this book a good three out of four because of the beautiful romance and realism, along with the gradual progression in the book where it was slow enough to follow but fast enough to not bore you. I did need more originiality in the book, but overall it is a great read for anyone interested in faeries or fantasy romance.

The sequel to Wings, Spells, has been released and Illusions is set to release on May 3, 2011! There is also talk of Wings being sold to Disney to be made into a movie. I'm all for having the movie but not with Disney, I don't like how they clean up the movies.

Peace and Fangs,
Alisha

  1. I've been going back and forth with reading this one for a while but I think your review has definitely sold me on it. I'm pretty excited to get it and read it now.
